John (Doc) Willoughby, who was on the founding editorial staff of Cook’s Illustrated, is the executive editor of magazines at America’s Test Kitchen. Prior to this, for nine years he was the executive editor of Gourmet magazine. He is the coauthor of 10 cookbooks, including the award-winning Thrill of the Grill with Chris Schlesinger. He and Chris also had a monthly column for seven years in the Dining section of The New York Times, and Doc remains a frequent contributor to that section. Doc has taught food-writing courses at Boston University, the Radcliffe Institute, and the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone and is on the advisory board of Chop Chop, a magazine of healthy cooking for children.
